efore becoming an academic, Sue was international brand manager  with Forbo and new products manager with Unilever. She has a BA (Hons) in German with French from Durham University and an MBA and PhD (in emerging markets) from Warwick University. After completing her MBA, distance learning through Warwick Business School, Sue joined the faculty in 1991. She taught marketing and international marketing at a range of levels from undergraduate to MBA, MSc and Executive Education. She held a number of roles during her time at WBS. She was Senior Tutor at WBS from 1994 – 1998, Academic Director of The Warwick MBA by distance learning 1999-2002, Academic Director of the MSc Marketing and Strategy in 2003-04. She set up and ran successfully for 10 years, a Certificate course for the League Managers Association to train football managers and taught blue-chip clients including HSBC, Ford, Nestlé, Philips, Deloitte, Prudential, KPMG and in sport, the Football Association, League Managers’ Association and the Professional Footballers’ Association as well as a number of football clubs.

Sue has written academic journal articles on a range of topics in international journals and is author of Football Brands (2010) and Football Management (2010) Palgrave. She has carried out a number of research projects including “The England Brand in China” “Asian British Football Fans”, “The Challenges for Black Football Managers” and she produces quarterly football manager reports for the League Managers Association (LMA). Sue is on the Leadership  Advisory Boad of the LMA.

In October 2013, Sue joined Liverpool University as Director of Sports Research. She teaches Sports Marketing and Sponsorship on the Football Industries MBA as well as being reponsible for the Internship programme. Since joining Liverpool, Sue has taught Business of Football courses for clients including the Azeri Football Federation, the Josoor Institute in Qatar and she is currently relaunching her LMA Football Managers’ at St George’s Park, accredited by Liverpool University, beginning in June 2014.
